Goals
Maintain 3.5 GPA (grade point average) or better throughout entire academic career
It is her proactive and extremely personal approach to learning that allowed Joy to graduate high school at the top of her class. In college, Joy went on to be named a Ronald E. McNair Scholar in a program for first generation college students, and was elected as a member of the Sigma Iota Rho International Relations National Honor Society. She graduated cum laude from Mount Holyoke College at the turn of the millennium.
After her first major debut in corporate America, Joy returned to school to obtain her master's degree in business administration and graduated with a solid 3.5 GPA.
Joy did not stop at an advanced degree. In 2008, Intel paid for Joy to complete a Doing Business in China certificate program through the Thunderbird Garvin School of International Management, where she was awarded the highest marks possible, a perfect 4.0.
Key to accomplishing this goal in a nutshell:
- Be prepared to teach everything you learn. When you approach learning in this way, you will pay closer attention to key messages. You will also make the subjects personal and retain the information better.
- Understand your sources, including teacher and author bias. Be brave enough to challenge them based on your own experiences. We can all learn from each other.
- Know why the things that distract you do, and find proper outlets for them.
- Build your education like you build a house. First, get a solid foundation, and then expand. Decide how many rooms, levels, windows and doors you want and keep on improving. Eventually you will have built something incredibly valuable that may provide you a great deal of protection throughout the inevitable storms we all must weather.
