I always wondered why somebody doesn't do something about that. Then I realized I was somebody.
Joy supports several educational initiatives geared to improving teaching and learning in the classroom and the workplace. Her volunteer efforts increasingly have focused on helping underprivileged populations gain access to technology, education, and employment opportunities that can change their lives.

Raised several hundred dollars for preeclampsia research and education as the team leader of NICU Champions. Team ranked among top 200 teams nationwide in the 7th-9th annual Promise Walks benefiting the Preeclampsia Foundation.

Participated in a 5K walk for the global Giving Tuesday Movement in support of the Kramden Institute, a nonprofit providing technology tools and training to bridge the digital divide.

Assembled 100+ comfort kits (including fleece blankets and small arts and crafts activities) for children with life-threatening illnesses staying at the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford with their families.

Served on marketing subteam for the events planning committee responsible for organizing Intel's Girl Geek Dinner. The event featured a panel that addressed “Pushing Boundaries in Technology" and an extensive demo center with All-In-One/Gaming, Perceptual Computing, Cloud Video Encoding, and Intel-powered phones, tablets, and Ultrabooks booths as well as a volunteer activity supporting the GAINS (Girls Achieving in Non-Traditional Subjects) organization.

Supervised students during 2 science experiments for Education Day at Maker Faire in San Mateo, CA where cast and crew of Intel-sponsored PBS show, Design Squad, made a special appearance. The first experiment involved students working together in small groups to build a mechanism to make a ping pong fly as high as possible into the air. The second experiment involved wiring a dance pad (similar to Dance Dance Revolution) that would light with the pressure of a footstep.
