On England
While studying abroad at Louisenlund, Joy and her class took a field trip to London. She also enjoyed her visits to the landmarks, which included viewing the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London, watching the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, hearing Big Ben strike, and checking out celebrities in their wax form at Madamme Tussauds London wax museum.
Joy returned to England for 3 weeks after an 18-year hiatus in 2012 to cover some key responsibilities for an Intel colleague out on maternity leave. Joy’s husband flew out to join her in Swindon, a quiet town due west of London, where Intel’s main UK offices are located. The two enjoyed many a meal at Goddard Arms, their favorite hangout in town, and several leisurely trips to The Co-op, a supermarket in Old Town that offered some tastier alternatives to the food available at the Intel canteen. On the weekends, the two managed to escape south to Stonehenge, northeast to reunite with one of Joy’s mentors and his wife in Oxford, and further east to the capital to visit several old school friends-turned-Londoners.
