It's the little things citizens do. That's what will make the difference. My little thing is planting trees.

On Kenya

Jambo! Joy ventured to Nairobi, Kenya to attend the wedding of her pal, Peter. Before the wedding, Joy had a day to explore Nairobi on her own and met a bright young woman, Kezzie, who interns at the Nairobi Animal Orphanage and Safari Walk. The wedding day was packed with fun, including a ceremony, reception, and after party that lasted into the wee hours of the morning.

After a fittingly long day of celebrating, Joy had another day free before a select group of 30+ wedding guests embarked on a 4-day safari through the Maasai Mara. Joy chose to visit Kibera, the 2nd largest slum district in East Africa with her friend and co-worker Scott, and his sister, Val. That evening Joy and the group ate at the acclaimed Carnivore, where Joy tried camel and crocodile for the 1st time. Joy felt grateful to experience such a nice restaurant, but was also hyper aware of the privilege having just witnessed such a different world within the confines of Kibera. Joy awoke the next morning ready for what would be a very bumpy 5-hour drive west to Maasai Mara.

Joy enjoyed chasing wild animals by day and taking warm showers at the Mara Simba Lodge by night. Joy also had the privilege of meeting a young man, Charles, at the lodge's gift shop. Charles has big dreams and Joy has kept in touch with him.

Joy then took off to the coast with two new girlfriends and Peter's brother, Jonathan. No better way to spend the last days of vacation than kicking back by the sea in Mombasa!
