Joy has been to Lund
On Sweden
During her semester abroad in high school at Louisenlund, Joy made a trip north from Germany to Sweden. Joy's music teacher had a girlfriend in Lund, and since her two daughters were around Joy's age, he thought it would be fun to spend time with them. He was right!
The train ride Joy took by herself through Denmark to Sweden was unforgettable. At one point the entire train entered an enormous train ferry. Once the train was in place, the train conductor announced that passengers were allowed to step off the train onto the boat and go explore. Joy was tickled pink. She discovered a giant supermarket on one of the upper levels and was in complete awe over how colossal the craft was. Joy made sure to get back to her train on the lower level with plenty of time to spare.
Joy was well received by the music teacher's girlfriend and her two daughters. One daughter was exactly Joy's age and they hit it off right away. Joy remembers watching dubbed Friends episodes and going to a party where she was asked if she carried a gun, because the impression kids her age got from TV and the movies was that everyone in the US carries a gun. She also remembers the sweet mix of aromas in the tea shop where she bought tea in tins and the corner store where she bought a wooden ladle that she still uses today.
Sweden is the cleanest place Joy has ever been, and she would go back in a heartbeat.
